I believe the most compelling way to photograph pelicans is at the moment they touch the water. That instant reveals the bird in its purest form—the wings fully open, the body suspended between air and surface.

There are days at Lake Kerkini when the water becomes a mirror. Everything reflects back: the birds, the sky, the mountains, the quiet line of the shoreline. On this afternoon, I worked with that stillness. From the boat, I followed the pelicans as they moved alongside us, waiting for the rhythm of their landings to align with the calm of the lake.

What drew me to this frame was the contrast. Two pelicans descending together, their movement and reflections creating energy, set against a landscape stripped down to its essentials. The gesture of the birds carries the image.
