The Pines — Limited Edition Fine Art Print from Yosemite National Park
The Pines
Yosemite National Park — 2025
When I photograph nature, I am always looking for the element that will give an image its character. Something that separates it from what already exists. Conditions matter. They define the direction before composition ever does.
As the snowfall began in Yosemite Valley, the forest quickly turned chaotic. Snow filled the air, depth collapsed, and the background dissolved into motion. In moments like this, discipline matters. You have to simplify. To ignore what distracts. To focus only on what carries weight.
I am always thinking about the final print — how the image will live on a wall, how much space it needs to breathe. During the storm, I stripped the frame down completely, removing anything that introduced visual noise, waiting for structure to appear.
Three pine trees stood together, isolated from the rest of the forest. Snow settled heavily on their branches, giving them form and separation against the dark background. The storm softened everything else. The scene reduced itself.
There was a quiet certainty when it happened. Nothing more needed to be added. Nothing needed to be removed.
There is power in simplicity. Some images do not need to be loud to hold attention.
‘‘I am always thinking about the final print
how the image will live on a wall, how much space it needs to breathe.’’
