The Kingdom of Pelicans

fine art photography from Lake Kerkini, greece

Along the tranquil waters of Lake Kerkini in Northern Greece, the Dalmatian pelican reigns as one of nature’s quiet monarchs. Their vast wings and slow, deliberate movements transform the lake into a living canvas—where every ripple, reflection, and breath of mist tells a story of balance and grace.

The Kingdom of Pelicans is a fine art black-and-white series honoring these rare and ancient birds. Created during the cold months of winter, when light softens and silence deepens, the work reveals a world where strength and fragility coexist.

Through these photographs, I invite collectors to see the wild not as distant or untamed, but as sacred—a realm of harmony that still endures, waiting to be seen with reverence and care.

About the Location

Lake Kerkini, in northern Greece, is one of Europe’s most important wetlands and a key breeding ground for Dalmatian pelicans, among the world’s largest and rarest birds. The lake’s reflective surface and gentle winter light make it a perfect place for observing natural behavior up close. It’s a sanctuary for over 300 bird species and a symbol of Europe’s remaining wild spaces.

My Artistic Vision for This Collection

At Kerkini, I wanted to photograph the pelicans with quiet attention — not as distant wildlife, but as subjects of dignity and grace. The calm light and mirrored water allowed me to create simple, balanced compositions that highlight movement and shape.

The Kingdom of Pelicans showcases my approach to fine art wildlife photography: direct, respectful, and focused on capturing the beauty of natural behavior in its purest form, illuminated by natural light.
