Alone — Limited Edition Fine Art Print from Iceland
Alone
Iceland — 2023
There are moments in my life when I feel alone. It’s a state most of us recognize, even if we don’t always speak about it. Standing in front of this scene, it reminded me of that state.
Iceland can feel harsh and unforgiving, yet deeply beautiful at the same time. I often think life works in a similar way. Many experiences carry weight and clarity together, without choosing one over the other.
I have always been an observer. I think this is why I fell in love with photography. Watching rather than directing. Letting moments unfold on their own. For this image to exist, I stepped back and let the elements take their place. The solitary rock rising from the sea, the restless water, the black sand shaping the foreground. Wind, scale, and distance did the work for me. The scene felt complete and restrained. Black and white came instinctively—it belonged to the moment.
What was missing was a final, quiet presence. A human figure passing through the frame without claiming it. Not the focus, but a measure of scale. Temporary against something that endures.
For me, this photograph carries a deeper meaning. We continue forward. We keep walking. Even in moments like this, we move on.
‘‘The decisive moment, as Henri Cartier-Bresson described it, arrived briefly. My role was simply to be ready.’’
‘‘I have always been an observer.
I think this is why I fell in love with photography.’’
