The difficulty with photographing giraffes is not access or behavior, but finding a way to see them without repeating what already exists. I often find the process strangely challenging, as familiarity can quietly limit how a subject is perceived.
For this image, what mattered most to me was what I chose to leave out. I decided to show only the upper part of the giraffes, separating them from the ground and placing them against the sky, allowing the clouds to become part of the composition.
What completed the frame were the two oxpeckers. Just moments earlier, they had been resting on the neck of one of the giraffes. When they suddenly took flight, the scene shifted. Their movement introduced a sense of balance and rhythm that brought the image into alignment.
The execution itself was simple. What mattered was patience—waiting without forcing the moment. It was about staying present until everything aligned. The decisive moment, as Henri Cartier-Bresson described it, arrived briefly. My role was simply to be ready.
